Our Services
We support individuals and communities through culturally safe social and emotional well-being programs and workshops using combined evidence-based health promotional tools and local cultural knowledge. We work together with existing health and social professionals in our local community to offer a holistic and professional service.
Our focus is to offer products and resources that are not only affordable but also deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, which are essential for nurturing social and emotional well-being.
We draw upon our professional skills in Indigenous health promotion, event management, and local cultural knowledge and strong relationships with our partners to create impactful events, programs, and workshops that foster social and emotional well-being.
Our founder and director
Widhow illijain Yindi / Hello how are you?
My name is Edwina Braddick, and but please call me ‘Eddie.’ I am a Gammēya-Ḏharrawal meegay (woman) and have connection to Dhurga language; both are within the Yuin Nation (along South Coast of NSW in Australia). I am a Mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people gaining equable social and emotional wellbeing support across Australia.
How: Birrabine Miigay has been in the making since I was a young girl; like most people we go through difficulties in life, and I have well and truly experienced my fair share of both. I got thinking…although life’s journey so far had brought me many hardships, I have always prided myself that I am an optimistic person with so much resilience.
I released at the age of 13 years old that even my personality traits were like not like many people of my generation. Despite so many experiences of trauma, grief, or life’s downs, I would always surprise myself how I kept striving for the good thing’s life and still helping others along the way. After gaining an opportunity to develop my very own research program through my studies ‘Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion at Sydney University.’ I decided to focus my research on helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescence females through poor social and emotional wellbeing. My life’s experiences and opportunities to keep strong connection to culture has helped build on my skills and knowledge too. I can proudly say that I have gained tools and knowledge that are evidence-based and culturally safe to help inspire others to stay strong to keep growing and evolving.
Why: I hope Birrabine Miigay will inspire and help enrich the lives of many people through authentic people connecting to others or giving motivation to people to understand their very own strengths and abilities to become their best individual’s self’s.
Why the business name “Birrabine Miigay”? it is the words ‘Emu Woman’ in my traditional language Gammēya-Ḏharrawal and I am proudly a strong Emu spirited woman. I express my gratitude for knowledge of our family’s traditional language which has been pasted down in generations because of my grand-grandmother Lena Chapman nee Carpenter strength and resilience through impacts due to the colonisation. I give a deep appreciation to my uncle ‘Warren Morris’ and brothers “Jacob Morris’ and ‘Joel Deaves’ who were given responsibly of being language holders and dedicated their lives to ensure its survival.
What: Birrabine Miigay is a concept that I hope will continue to thrive through building strong relationships and connection to existing programs so we can help continue to inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have equitable opportunities and in turn a good quality of live.
Thank you for your time in reading this story and even if this is the only time you come across Birrabine Miigay please know that “I truly believe in you and always remember you deserve the best life”
